Awakening

Awakening

She’s just shy right now,

She just needs a minute.

A minute to grow, a minute to think, a minute to be in it.

See life hit her a little too hard at such a young age,

It got turned upside down and all colors turned beige.

But the world kept turning, kept going about,

So she stood back up – there’s no need to pout.

Constantly stumbling the hurdles, and picking herself back up,

Is this the final lap? Have I jumped high enough?

The colors come back with love at the door,

She’s no longer a puzzle piece laying on the floor,

Ready to be picked up, shaved, and crammed into all the wrong spaces,

This love showed her its graces.

Now she has a puzzle piece of her own out in the wild,

That she protects with everything she has, to make life proper for the child,

No one will take away what was taken from her,

What she had to build within and what she had to conquer.

She’s just shy right now.

She just needs a minute.

A minute to grow, a minute to think, a minute to be in it.

Those were my words to myself and now they’re hers

Not by choice, not by experience, but from this curse.

This perfect life can’t be destroyed, nor created,

This idea is something that came from being jaded.

These puzzle pieces are made from matching material,

but they don’t make the same picture, they are not equal.

No matter the cramming, the shaving, the fitting in spaces,

It will not erase the wrongdoings or history or faces.

Projection is backward and healing moves forward.

She is fine.

She is growing.

She is older.

See how quickly the pieces intertwine?

Hers and mine?

But she is not me. She is not mine.

She belongs to herself and as much as I want to put her safely tucked away,

She does not need to be saved by me and that’s ok.

I can save myself without burdening hers.

I can offer my heart and knowledge for this curse.

She’s being rewritten right now,

She just needs a minute.

A minute to heal, a minute to feel, a minute to not be in it.
